Starting An Online Business
If you are one of the many who want to earn a living by
starting an online business, you have likely already figured out that there is a lot to learn. Starting an online business
means you will be starting an actual business. And if this is
your first business venture then taking the time to get
'up-to-speed' before you start spending money can seriously
increase your chances of success. There are many steps in
becoming a successful internet entrepreneur, but the first and
most important in actually starting your online business is
determining what you are going to sell.
Learn how the pro's pick Hot Selling Internet Products
Choosing Hot Selling Internet Products
When starting an online business, the first thing to consider is what products to sell on the internet. Without knowing what your focus will be, making any other plans in regards to your internet business venture is pointless.
Securing a domain, deciding what marketplace to sell in and estimating your
actual monthly business budget will all be based on what you sell. Gathering
current market research is one of the first things you will want to do. Demand and market saturation are important, but deliverability is a big factor in the success of your business.
If you plan to use a drop shipper so you don't have to carry inventory then that
changes the pool of products you have to choose from. Drop shipping does work
but serious online sellers have learned (often the hard way) that you can't pick
any ole' product you want and start trying to market it online. So serious
sellers developed methods of free market research using the internet to help
identify hot selling products...but more importantly what products will be
profitable but still affordable to sell on a limited monthly budget. By and
large, the best products to sell for home-based online sellers are ones that
cater to niche markets. If you're just starting an online business and would
like step by step help identifying what to sell then you should check out
Simple Market Research. Once you have identified the
product(s) you want to sell online it's time to start your online business. Here
are the basics...
1. Secure a Domain Name: This is your website address that people will go
to to find your business online. Your domain name should contain relevant
keyword(s) related to the product niche you sell in, while at the same time be
something small and easy for customers to remember.
2. Choose a Hosting Company or eCommerce
Platform: Hosting companies are what allow your website to be seen online.
Many eCommerce platforms like Amazon, eBay, Yahoo and others offer hosting in
with their online store sites. This can a good route to go as not only will they
provide hosting, they also provide a marketplace that already has shopping
customers. If you simply go with a hosting company, it will be on your shoulders
to get that store up in front people. Even though you will be working to get
customers no matter what you choose, with shopping marketplaces already in place
(like yahoo) you get the benefit of additional traffic you might not have gotten
on your own.
3. Choose a Shopping
Cart/Merchant Account: You have to have a way for people to pay you for the
products you offer. Your store's "shopping cart" allows your customers a way to
select what they want to purchase and the Merchant Account allows you (as a
business) to accept their credit card orders.
4. Drive traffic to
your site: The easy part of starting an online business is getting the store
built, accepting payments and launching it...the hard part is getting people to
visit you. You will *always* be working hard to find new ways to drive more
customers to your business. The most common ways are PPC (Pay Per Click)
Advertising and SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Advertising allows you to pay
for targeted keywords so that when people type those keywords into the search
engines your store will appear in the sponsored results. Advertising can get you
traffic very fast and why it's important to do your market research to find the
right products to sell so you can afford to advertise in that market (some
products are cheaper than others to advertise). SEO takes longer but can be
generate a lot of traffic (for less money than advertising) once your site
begins to get listed in the organic search listings.
5. Test and Tweak your site:
Some of the
'on-going' work you will do when you start an online business is
constantly testing things on your site such as: advertising messages, sales
copy, product specials and deals. As with any retail business the work isn't
done just by launching it. To keep the sales coming in you have to make changes
so that your online business is converting the most sales.
While this is just is a basic outline of what it
takes to start an online business, the important thing to remember is starting
an online business can be profitable but it won't be easy. Don't believe the
hype. Many places online advertise how you can make tens of thousands of dollars
a month quick, easy and without doing any work and that's simply not true.
As with any business, making money takes knowledge and perseverance. If you are
committed to starting an online business the very first step is identifying what
you are going to sell and the only way to do that is thru internet market
research. Fortunately there are free tools online that can help make this
process very easy and if you are new to selling online then take the time to
learn how to do that research that right way!
